Another Transition Awaits

WOW! Can you believe that 3 months have gone by for us here in Guatemala? We are completing our last few days of language school. We have learned so much, but still have a long way to go. Language learning is constantly humbling. It’s hard to imagine that in 13 days we will be in Nicaragua, after almost 8 yeas of waiting, trusting, believing, and preparing. Many times, in this journey, we couldn’t see God’s answer to our prayer, we just had to keep pressing on, obeying the last thing we knew God had placed before us.

Our prayer is that we will always model trust, obedience, and persevere despite the difficulties, hardships, and uncertainties. During this time, when transition is occurring again, our hearts desire is to trust and obey, fully relying on the One who has brought us this far. However, the battle of inadequacy arises. Like Moses when he asked in Genesis 3:11, “Who am I that I should go?” God has led us to do something far out of our comfort zone. The task is overwhelming, intimidating, and lonely. But what we are learning during these times is what God wants to do in us is just as important as what He wants to do through us.

Over the last few months, we have been transformed in so many ways. God has certainly used this time of transition to teach one of us more about His character. Obedience and perseverance are hard, but the Gospel is WORTH IT!

In our quiet times, we have been reminded of Abraham and Noah and how they modeled obedience to God (a lot longer than 8 years).  Both men of faith stayed faithful even when they couldn’t see the plan, they trusted God for the outcome. “Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make. Become intimate with him in whatever you do, and he will lead you wherever you go. (Proverbs 3:5-6 Passion Translation)

This Holiday, we will be away from friends, family, and loved ones, but we will be establishing relationships and opportunities to share the real meaning of Christmas; “For unto us a child is born, and unto us a son is given.” Would you pray for us during this next transition onto Nicaragua?

  1. As we battle many different emotions from inadequacy and fear to excitement, anticipation, and joy, please pray that He would be our “Wonderful Counselor
  2. Packing, navigating airlines again with 28 pieces of luggage, moving into a small home in Granada, and trying to obtain residency, pray that we will know Him more as our Mighty God and Everlasting Father.
  3. During this Christmas Season, as we are missing family and friends with hearts of loneliness and a little anxiety as we establish new relationships in another language, pray that He will be our Prince of Peace.

What a joy and privilege we get to share: “Of the greatness of His government and peace, there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.” Isaiah 9:6-7.

We want to say, that we are so thankful and grateful to each one of you who have prayed earnestly for our family and who have given so sacrificially for our family to be on this journey in advancing the Gospel in Nicaragua. In a matter of days, we will be arriving at the place, God has been preparing in us and for us, to join Him in His work. Please know, we are praying for each one of you, specifically by name, that you will also experience Jesus as Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.

Merry Christmas from the Furches Family!
