Going 4 Broke

Recently, I listened to a sermon by Steven Furtick titled “Going 4 Broke.” Just the title brings about so many thoughts and emotions. Furtick referenced Mark 14:

“Now the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread were only two days away, and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were scheming to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him. “But not during the festival,” they said, “or the people may riot.” While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head. Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages[a] and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly.“Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you,[b]and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me. She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial. Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”

“She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.”  We are so blessed to be able to have read the entire story and know the outcome, but did she? Did she really know the extent of what she was doing? Did she know it would be told thousands of years later? Did she know that it would change people’s lives? Her most expensive, precious, and valuable gift, she gave to honor her King! Without hesitation, and with complete abandonment, she gave to honor the Savior. I have asked myself, how can I honor my Savior, and what can I give to the King of Kings? I give Him:

all that desires instant gratification,

all that is familiar,

all that is comfortable,

all that is secure,

and all that is predictable

So, He can build a faithful follower, who believes in a boundless God, an overwhelming good, good, Father who is working faith into this sometimes, faithless heart, implanting trust and steadfastness into a heart that doesn’t flee; for I know the battle is His. I will do whatever it takes to tell the Gospel story and spread His Precious Name throughout the world!

I WANT TO GO FOR BROKE!
